MAXIMIZING POTENTIAL for the ADHD CHILD & ADULT

Russell Barkley, Ph.D. has stated, “ADHD consists of three primary problems in a person's ability to control behavior: difficulties with sustained attention, an increased distractibility, impulse control or inhibition, and excessive activity… In addition there are two additional problems: difficulties following rules and instructions and excessive variability in their responses to situations (particularly doing work).”

ADHD is the most commonly treated behavioral disorder of childhood, affecting from 3-5% of school-aged children. ADHD is often under or over-diagnosed and skillful assessment requires expertise.  Many of the children who suffer from ADHD will carry the disorder throughout adulthood. Up to one-third of children with ADHD should also be assessed for depression, anxiety disorders, oppositional defiant disorders and learning disabilities.
